The Detroit Free Press/Flagstar Bank Marathon

The DIO is proud to partner with the Detroit Free Press/Flagstar Bank Marathon. Our visually impaired and sighted volunteers appreciate this opportunity to take part in such an exciting event, RUN FOR A REASON. Please consider pledging your support to the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology.

You can sign up for the Marathon, Half-Marathon, 5 Person Relay or the
5K Fun Run & Walk (3.1 Miles).

The 5K Fun Run and Fitness Walk

Detailed Description:

The course begins at the marathon start near Comerica Park (home of the Detroit Tigers) and Ford Field (home of the Detroit Lions). It finishes near the 50-yard line of Ford Field (home of the Detroit Lions). This 5K is one of the most diverse courses in Michigan. Parking is plentiful and the finish line is only one block away from the start.
Runners and walkers of any age and/or ability are welcome to participate in the celebration of fun and fitness. After the event, stay to cheer on the marathon runners. Ford Field stadium concession stands will be open.

Race Amenities:

All participants receive a short sleeve t-shirt, commemorative finisher’s medal and finish line refreshments. Age group winners will receive a special award.

Race Numbers:

Race numbers, t-shirts and computer timing chips can be picked up at the Whole Foods Market Health and Fitness Expo. Race numbers can also be picked up on race day from 6:00 a.m. to 7:15 a.m. in the parking lot near the start.
