FRIENDS
OF VISION RAFFLE OFFERS CHANCE
TO WIN CADILLAC ESCALADE LEASE
GROSSE POINTE SHORES, Mich., June 5, 2000 Each year, the EyesOn Design hosts a raffle to help the visually impaired. The raffle serves as one of the primary fundraisers for the Friends of Vision, which is the volunteer arm of the DIO.
This year, the grand prize is a three-year lease on a 2000 model year Cadillac Escalade. The second prize is $3,000, and the third prize is $1,500.
The Cadillac Escalade luxury sport utility vehicle features plenty of interior room, a 5.7-liter Vortec V8 engine, and GMs premium OnStar service.
EyesOn Design will sell just 618 tickets at $100 per ticket. Tickets went on sale May 1. The size of the raffle is limited, so the odds are better than average.
The Friends of Vision is dedicated to working with those who are striving to maintain, improve and substitute sight. Friends of Vision also helps the visually impaired maintain their independence and dignity through education, support, and socialization so they can live a satisfying, productive life in a sighted world.
Volunteers also facilitate support group meetings, help the visually impaired with transportation, produce a taped version of a local community newsletter, provide support and information via telephone, and much more.
The support groups are intended for people who have sight, people losing their sight, and those completely without sight. They offer members personal contact with others experiencing similar conditions, useful information for daily living and information about where to find additional help.
The Friends of Vision also operates the Martha Gorey Resource Center, a 1,400-square-foot facility at the DIOs Grosse Pointe Park headquarters that offers low-cost vision aids, such as hand-held and lighted magnifiers, talking clocks, watches and calculators, large print calculators and address books, as well as games and books. The Gorey Resource Center also features a kitchen so visually impaired people can master food preparation and cooking techniques specifically designed for them.
