1999 EyesOn Design Weekend Set for June 18-20
GROSSE POINTE SHORES, Mich., June 2 - EyesOn Design, the world's only car show to focus on the emotion and character of design, has announced the dates and locations for its 1999 Design Weekend. All proceeds from the events will benefit Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology (DIO) and its mission to aid the visually impaired.
The 1999 EyesOn Design Weekend will feature The Great American Convertible and run from Friday to Sunday, June 18-20. Tickets for all events can be obtained by calling the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology at (313) 824-EYES (3937). The events include:
Friday, June 18
What: Eve of the Eyes - An informal social event honoring the design profession. The event features a review of automotive art and a preview of the EyesOn Design exhibition featuring vehicles of the past, present and future.
Time: 6 p.m. - 9 p.m.
Location: DaimlerChrysler Design Center, Auburn Hills, Michigan
Cost: $25 per person (students $15) includes parking and hors d'oeuvres
Saturday, June 19
What: Vision Honored - Blacktie Automotive Design Awards Banquet, honoring Richard Teague posthumously for his significant design contributions at Packard, American Motors and Chrysler. Guest speakers include John Herlitz, Vice President of Design, DaimlerChrysler Corp.; Wayne Cherry, Vice President of Design, General Motors; J Mays, Vice President of Design, Ford; and Jacques Nasser, CEO & President, Ford Motor Co.
Time: 6:30 p.m.
Location: Magna International, Troy, Michigan
Cost: $200 per person (by reservation) includes parking, dinner and dancing.
Sunday, June 20 (Father's Day)
What: Private Eyes Brunch - An elegant brunch featuring a fashion exhibition by "W' magazine.
Time: 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Location: Private lakeside pavilion at the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House, Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan
Cost: $95 per person (by reservation) Children 12 and under $47.50 Tables of 10 available: $950 (by reservation)
What: EyesOn Design - A celebration of Automotive Design, featuring more than 270 of the world's finest vehicles. Judging by automotive designers will take place in 9 categories with crystal awards being presented mid-day to the owners of the "Best of' vehicles.
Time: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. (awards ceremony begins at I p.m.)
Location: Edsel & Eleanor Ford House, Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan
Cost: $15 per person; $12 in advance Children under 12 free with adult paid admission
The DIO is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) corporation founded in 1972. It operates the only Allied Health Education accredited Ophthalmic Assistant program and two-year Ophthalmic Technician program in Michigan, one of only 13 nationwide. The DIO also manages one of the largest support groups for visually impaired persons in the United States.
