DIO History
The DIO was founded in 1972 to provide the support and tools necessary
to enhance independence for the visually impaired and blind; develop
career opportunities in the allied health field that will provide
better trained, caring ophthalmic technicians; and help provide answers
to baffling problems related to the eye and vision through research.
The Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology, a not-for-profit 501(c)(3)
corporation, has three mission objectives:
