Teachers
The education programs of the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology are
substantially strengthened by volunteers. In general, these
volunteers are ophthalmologists and others willing to teach our ophthalmic
assistant, ophthalmic technology and ophthalmic
technician students scientific matters related to this profession.
Career Day
Volunteers are needed to visit Career Day gatherings in high schools
and junior colleges to describe the career opportunities
available through our educational programs. Although the ophthalmic
supporting personnel career fields offer wide and satisfying
opportunities for young people, the profession is little known or
appreciated by school career counselors and, of course, by their
students. Volunteers willing to assist in this effort are desperately
needed.
Clinical Affiliates
The Institute is always in need of ophthalmological offices and practices
with facilities and employees who are willing to help train
ophthalmic assistants, technicians and technologists. These clinical
rotations are essential to the development of the skills
necessary to aid in the practice of this specialty.
(For the clinical site there's always the possibility of helping to
train a future employee.)
