Eyes on Design is an invitational automotive
exhibition that focuses on the artistic nature of automobile
design. The theme for 2005, International Vehicle Design :
Past, Present and Future, signifies a renewed commitment to
making “ Eyes” a truly international event. It
expands our relationships with all the major automotive design
offices. You will not only view the beautiful vehicles from
the past, but also look to the future with a display of the
latest concept vehicles.
A stroll around the “Eyes” unique
serpentine field layout on the meadow of the magnificent Edsel
& Eleanor Ford House, is like a trip around the world.
Each of the major auto producing countries will have categories
highlighting their unique design character. Additional displays
will highlight the variety of international designs for motorcycles,
sports cars and more current tuner restyled sport compacts.
Unique crystal awards are presented to the winning vehicles
based on their design attributes. “Eyes” judges
include automotive design executives, current and retired,
who know automotive history, as well as design.
A select group of noted automotive experts
act as special guest judges.
Over the past 17 years, Eyes on Design has had
the privilege to honor many automotive industry and racing
dignitaries. These have included chairmen, presidents and
vice-presidents of some of the world’s largest automotive
companies; world renowned designers like Sergio Pininfarina,
Nuccio Bertone and Giorgetto Giugiaro; world champion auto
racers such as Jackie Stewart and Phil Hill; and automotive
visionaries like Sir William Lyons and Willie G. Davidson.
The proceeds from Eyes on Design benefit the
Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology, a non-profit 501(c)(3)
corporation founded in 1972. Eyes on Design is one of the
primary sources of revenue for the DIO’s programs for
education and research in ophthalmology and support for the
visually impaired.
