Senior Support Groups
“Friendship, Fun and Understanding” that is the motto for our support groups for the visually impaired.
Our support groups are located in Grosse Pointe Park, and St Clair Shores Michigan. However we service members from Warren, Eastpointe, Roseville and the east side of Detroit as well as all the Grosse Pointes and St Clair Shores area. We meet during the day usually twice a month for an hour and a half. Please find the current schedule below. Senior Groups meet October - May. The Visionaries Group meet September - June.
Our support groups provide a comfortable environment to discuss the challenges of living fully with a visual impairment. Each group of 20 - 30 visually impaired seniors hear speakers talk on a variety of topics. They discuss their difficulties and successes in daily life. On occasion, they take a day trip or attend special parties. All of this is made possible by the Friends of Vision who are volunteers for the events and diligently raise funds.
There is no charge to the support group members for attending the general meetings. When possible, we assist in providing transportation to meetings. Individuals may attend our support group meetings as long as they like, and many friendships have developed within the groups. However, we encourage new members to attend at least four meetings to begin. Many of our members have been in the support group for years.
